Blithe Spirit is a comedic play set in 1937 about an author that is visited by Madam Acarti, a medium that conducts a seance that brings the ghost of the authors first wife back to haunt him. I worked mainly on Madam Acarti’s first look and coat for her last look.

Madam Acarti’s first look consists of a 1920’s dress, slip, and a bolero. The black dress is made from vintage sequin fabric with a chiffon yoke front and back. There is two pointed godets that are hem faced with chiffon and trimmed with beaded fringe. The beaded hem and chiffon sash is hand sewn with a small running stitch. All the dress seams are either bias faced, french seamed, or wrapped with seam allowance. The slip is made of copper lame with godets on either side. Finally the Bolero is made of a textured velvet with custom embroidery. The bolero has a shaped canvas front and fully lined in a burgundy pasley.

On Madam Acarti’s last look I helped make a 1910’s kimono style coat made out of a floral burnout velvet lined with a blue bug print lining.
